List of Five: Christmas Writing

December 24, 2008 garridon Leave a comment

Instead of just doing a list of five sites that are about Christmas, I thought I’d look for sites that deal with writing about Christmas:

Telling and Selling Seasonal Stories.  This focus on this article is writing seasonal material for children’s magazines, but there’s a great discussion with several editors about the material they receive.  They also talk about the common mistakes of seasonal writing.

GarySpeer.com.  Discusses deadlines for seasonal material (PLEASE NOTE: The blog post is very good, but it is a marketing site).

Philadelpha Stories Writing Log:  Is your writing affected by the season?

Christian Writer’s Group:  A list of standard publishing deadlines for seasonal material.

Christmas Writing Prompts: I had trouble finding good prompts for Christmas.  Most of them are for school age kids.  This one’s a little more broad, though I particularly liked the question about what a typical day is for elves!

This is what my father said when I wanted to put reindeer antlers or a sweater on our minpin.  Granted, the antlers would have been kind of cute, but the sweater was for a practical purpose–she had very short hair and always seemed cold!

Most Memorable Christmas Decoration

Christmas decorations are going up all over the neighborhood.  There’s a house with a boat in the front yard, and they’ve put lights all over it and Santa Claus inside the boat.

What’s the most memorable Christmas decoration you’ve run into?

A Desert Christmas Story

A couple years ago, I wrote an article for the Washington Post’s Page 3 section on my Christmas during the first Persian Gulf War.   Check it out here.  There’s even a picture of me from Basic Training.

… And one of my neighbors already has his Christmas lights up and turned on!  This is waaay too early.  At least wait until after Thanksgiving.
